For a long time I’ve worked to find a way to combine the two things that are my greatest passions. I love creating things from salvaged objects, and this has allowed me to be able to have a flexible work schedule so that I could help run North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue. We are a nonprofit, all breed rescue that takes in dogs (and sometimes, cats, ferrets, geese, turtles and so on) and helps get them healthy, and into permanent loving homes. Searching for the treasures that I use in my work is great fun for me. I spend hours digging through barns, basements and yes, the occasional dumpster. I love the dented, rusted, banged, beaten and distressed finds. Sometimes I know exactly what I will do the moment I find something. Other times it will stay with me for years before I decide the perfect thing to create with it. With the help of some very talented people we design, paint and build a wide range of items, from functional such as picture frames and mirrors, to the whimsical quote signs and flower art.
